Sony’s iconic form of PlayStation is taking over London Underground stations for the UK PS5 launch.

Sony has acquired Oxford Circus tube station in London to mark the launch of the PS5 in the UK. The marketing ploy will last 48 hours at Oxford Circus and the entire tube station will be rebranded in the form of a PlayStation. The walls of metro stations have changed, round decorative decorations at the four entrances to the stations along the street.
The four inputs are shaped like a PlayStation, which you’ll find on the DualSense PS5 controller. Each one is also only a short walk from Microsoft’s massive London store. The rebranding of the Underground also spread throughout London. Mile End Station has now been renamed Miles End in honor of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Lancaster Gate is renamed Ratchet and Clankaster Gate, Seven Sisters is renamed Gran Turismo 7 Sisters, and West Ham is renamed Horizon Forbidden West Ham. The names of the four subways are preliminary, but the renaming of these new stations will continue until December 16.
This is not the first time Transport for London (TfL) has rebranded tube stations for business. Back in 2017, Amazon briefly renamed Westminster to Webminster to mark the launch of its London data center. During the 2015 London Marathon, the Canadian water station was also temporarily renamed Buxton Water.
However, it is surprising to see such a huge marketing effort during a nationwide lockdown in England. With most Londoners working from home or avoiding the city as part of national coronavirus containment restrictions, many have been unable to see the PlayStation form factor. The Sony rebrand will take place just a day before the PS5 launch in the UK tomorrow.
Update Nov 18 05:50 ET: Updated article with more information about renaming other tube stations in London.
